Since this is my first blog post, and chances are you probably don’t know who I am, I think this calls for a simple introduction. What up, I’m Jess I’m 23, and I never fucking learned how to read like most people my age I just want to get out there and explore anywhere and everywhere. But more about that later.
Here we are in a new decade, I thought I would kick this blog off with a simple list because writing lists makes me feel productive and what better way than to set some goals for the year. I haven’t really set myself goals, or new years resolutions before, but its something I want to try, and hopefully I’ll be able to stick to them. I’m determined to spend more time bettering myself this year, and hopefully I can learn some new skills along the way.
1. Focus on my skills
There are many things I often wish I were better at, or that I had learnt as a child, but there is absolutely nothing stopping me from learning these things now that I’m an adult, and I’m going to spend this year working on some new skills.
Languages are something that have always interested me, and in 2017 I had tried to learn Korean but I didn’t get very far. I can still read Hangul and remember the odd word, so I figured why not give it another shot? Equipped with some language apps and the will to learn I’m going to set myself the goal to be able to carry out a basic conversation in Korean by the end of the year.
Anyone who knows me knows photography is something that gives me great joy. In all honesty I only really know the basics, but I love taking photos and editing them so I really want to expand my knowledge and improve my photography skills this year.

2. Time Management
Okay, so maybe I’m not the best at time management (sue me) but its not very often that I arrive somewhere on time. Any of my friends will tell you I have a bad habit of being late, and I promise you all I’m going to work on that this year lmao. I’ve already started to notice a difference, and I’ve only been late to work once so far this year so imma give myself a big ol’ pat on the back. I hope I can keep this up for the rest of the year, and I give my friends full permission to whoop my ass if they notice me slipping back into my old habits.
3. Improve my health
Something that I’ve never given much thought is my health, which is really stupid come to think of it and I’m going to turn that around this year by taking small steps to lead a healthier lifestyle.
I’ve decided I’m going to cut down on my dairy intake, since being a barista has lead to me drinking a lot of milk without thinking twice about it. At home I’ve already switched out cows milk for soy, switched out butter for dairy free spread and I’ve made a promise to myself to only use plant based milk if I’m craving a drink at work.
I’m also very guilty of not drinking enough water, I just don’t drink a lot in general to be honest. I definitely need to improve this, and I’ve bought a reusable water bottle in the hope it’ll help me achieve this goal.
4. Spend less time online
If I’m not working or sleeping, chances are you will find me wrapped up in bed watching YouTube videos for hours on end, or aimlessly scrolling through social media. I really want to nip this habit in the bud this year since I feel like I’m wasting countless hours on the internet, and I only end I regretting it. Instead I want to use the time that I would have wasted to do something beneficial, like writing a blog post or editing some photos.

5. Do something I’ve never done before
All of my friends know how much I love experiencing new things, and I’m going to try to gain as many new experiences as I possibly can this year. In the past couple of years I’d say I’ve had my fair share of new experiences, like exploring lava caves in the Aokigahara forest, and zip-lining over a beach in Singapore, but there are so many new things I’d like to experience and I hope to cross a few different things off the list this year.

Will I achieve all of these goals? Only time will tell, but I’m feeling very determined right now so that’s a good start.
